Hi {{ subscriber.first_name }},

Here's the paradox of hiring smart people:

You want their skills but you don’t let them use them.

I see this all the time.

Companies bring in skilled people from outside to help us grow and improve.

They hire them because they have special knowledge and experience that can make a big difference.

But then, they don’t let them use their skills.

And these people get frustrated and leave at some point.

What an irony it is.

Deep down, here’s why this happens:

Fear of change (and losing):
↳ Some leaders are worried that new ideas will eventually bring problems. It stops them from taking action.

Resistance from the existing team:
↳ Current employees feel threatened by new ideas. They worry that changes could disrupt or take away their jobs.

Not trusting new hires:
↳ Even though you bring in experts, you might not fully trust them to make important decisions.

The culture rejects them:

↳ No matter how great they are, the current norms and behaviors don't allow them to shine and lead.

Here's what to do differently:

Empower and trust new hires:
↳ Let them take charge of their projects. They feel valued and empowered when you trust them to use their ideas.

Encourage real collaboration:
↳ Create a culture where everyone, new and old, can share openly their thoughts. Break down barriers.

Protect them vs Fight them:
↳ You hired them. Show others that they are here to challenge the current thinking and drive innovation.

Celebrate risks:
↳ They bring new ideas that are worth considering. Allow them to test them and fail if necessary. Setbacks are fine.

My invitation...

Stop hiring smart people just to hold them back.

Hire them only when you're ready to be challenged.

P.S. The biggest wins are the result of the biggest bets.
