Hi {{ subscriber.first_name }},

Toxicity in the workplace doesn’t announce itself.

It hides in plain sight.

70% of employees report toxicity in the workplace as a significant factor for leaving their jobs.

But here’s the issue:

Toxicity rarely shows up with loud alarms.

Instead, it creeps in through subtle changes that go unnoticed—until it’s too late.

Start spotting the signs early to avoid a culture breakdown.

Here’s what to look for:

1/ Increased Silence in Meetings

  • When fewer people voice their opinions, it’s a red flag
  • It’s often a sign that they feel their input isn’t valued or
  • They fear repercussions

2/ Frequent Last-Minute Cancellations

  • If managers consistently cancel 1:1 or team meetings
  • It may be they’re disengaged or avoiding accountability
  • Lack of commitment from leaders signals disinterest

3/ Jokes Turn Sour

  • Frequent sarcasm can reveal underlying frustrations
  • If friendly jokes start to sound mean or rude…
  • It could show that people are feeling upset or worn out

4/ Growing Cliques

  • When employees start forming exclusive groups
  • Collaboration can turn into competition, and it limits
  • Cross-functional interaction & isolates excluded people

5/ Constant Over-Checking or Micromanagement

  • Leaders who start micromanaging signal a loss of trust
  • Over time, this breeds resentment and
  • Signals that employees’ abilities aren’t trusted

6/ Low Engagement in Group Settings

  • A lack of participation, enthusiasm, or eye contact
  • Can be subtle signs that employees are disengaging, or
  • Checking out emotionally & disconnecting from work

7/ Declining Quality of Communication

  • Emails become brief and conversations transactional
  • And feedback is less constructive
  • People go into self-preservation mode

If you spot these signs:

Start by opening a dialogue with your team.

Small steps can prevent a toxic culture from taking root.
